Import & Export Requirements

Importation of the Biological Based Organisms and Related Products.

Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS), as the secretariat to The Kenya Standing Technical Committee on Imports and Exports (KSTCIE), facilitates the process of risk assessment before the introduction of live organisms as per Guidelines for Introduction and Use of Bio Products, biological control agents and related products. These include live biological controls, bio-fertilizers, bio-stimulants, organic fertilizers, their products, and other regulated articles. Once the risk assessment is complete, products approved for introduction are referred to relevant research institutions for efficacy or registration.

To facilitate the processing of your application, you are required to provide information necessary for risk assessment by filling in the provided application form(s). Select from the forms the most suitable for your application. These forms are available through the Plant Import & Quarantine Regulatory System (PIQRS)

KEPHIS registration officer will evaluate the completeness and acceptability of the application form details thereby accepting or rejecting your application via the PIQRS system.

When accepted, you will then be required to submit four hard copies of the application dossier (application form and relevant supporting annexes) to KEPHIS using the following address;

Once received, the dossiers will be circulated for comments from scientific review experts whose comments you will be required to respond to accordingly. Thereafter a KSTCIE subcommittee meeting will be held to discuss the applications and come up with recommendations for the main KSTCIE committee. KSTCIE main committee will determine the course of your application. KEPHIS shall execute the decision accordingly. Please note that any of the information provided that is deemed confidential should be clearly marked `confidential` on the dossier. KSTCIE respects patency rights and thus handle confidential information appropriately.
