KEPHIS Takes First Position at the 2019 Nairobi International Trade Fair

Jamhuri Park Showgrounds – KEPHIS once again took first position at the 2019 Nairobi International Trade Fair. This was in the Best Regulatory Authority and Corporation Stand.

The winning trophy was presented by President Uhuru Kenyatta to KEPHIS Board Chair Mr. Robin Achoki. KEPHIS showed her prowess by demonstrating how inspections, regulations, setting standards and adhering to them has raised the profile of Kenya’s agricultural produce to world standards, thus creating demand internationally. As a result, Kenya earned KES 153 billion in foreign exchange from horticultural exports in 2018. Analyses of produce destined for overseas countries is being showcased, showing visitors how Kenya meets standards set by our trading partners on Maximum Residue Limits.

This year KEPHIS has demonstrations of certified potato seed, varieties of cabbage, Swiss chard, Sukuma wiki, Wheat, Barley and Managu; we also have the Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato in two varieties. Our analysts from the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory will show you how soil, water, water for irrigation suitability, fertilizers, manures and others agro-inputs are analyzed with the aim of assisting farmers maximize their yields. KEPHIS plays the role of inspecting horticultural produce destined for overseas countries hence we are showing you how basil, thyme, rosemary, dill, roses, fillers and various kinds of vegetables and other horticultural produce are inspected before export.
