BOARD TOUR IN THE WESTERN REGION 22ND OCTOBER 2019 TO 26TH OCTOBER 2019 NAIVASHA STATION

The office was opened in 2008 and covers Nyandarua, parts of Narok and parts of Nakuru.

The main activities performed by the office include:
-    Auditing of vegetables and flower farms
-    Issuance of phytosanitary certificates
-    Rejection and/or interception follow-up’s
-    Provisional quarantine facilities to check compliance
-    Nurseries inspections
-    Issuance of import permits
-    Conducting post certification activities

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE OFFICE
-    Increased issuance of phytosanitary certificates
-    Improved system audits
-    Increased seed sellers in the region

-    National performance trials and Distinctness, uniformity and stability test

(b)    Seed certification
-    Field inspection, factory processing inspection, seed testing, post seed certification survey, post control tests, issuance of seed seller license, database management and reporting, invoicing

2. Phytosanitary services

-    Plant import /export certification

-    Plant inspection (farm audits)

ACHIEVEMENTS
-    Passed both the International Seed Trade Association(ISTA) and QMS audits and maintained accreditations from 2000 to date
-    Trained Barley seed growers and Potato seed growers.
-    Operationalized nematology test in 2019
-    Trained Kenya seed company private seed analysts

TOUR OF KABARAK FARM, NAKURU

Kabarak Farm, Nakuru - Board of Directors seeing firsthand the production of seed potato; the government of Kenya has prioritized the production of potato under the Agenda of nutrition and food security.

The Board of Directors at SeedCo company in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County. SeedCo appreciated the good work that KEPHIS does in the region in curbing fake seed.

KEPHIS Board also met with Trans Nzoia County Governor H.E. Patrick Khaemba and the county commissioner. They promised to work together with KEPHIS to help reduce fake seed in the market.
