Only unripe bananas are permitted for export to Korea in the category of fresh fruits. Broccoli is also permitted in the category of fresh stems and leaves.
These commodities however require to be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate. Requirements for issuance of phytosanitary certificates for Samples

For any interested party wishing to export Samples, they should:-

  1. Source or look for a market for bananas and broccoli in Korea.
  2. Present the banana and broccoli samples at any KEPHIS office for inspection.
  3. Upon inspection and confirming that the bananas or broccoli are free from pests and pest damage and meet quality requirements, Phytosanitary certificates will be issued.
  4. Quality requirements that must be adhered to include the following; free from damage caused by low temperature, practically free of any visible foreign matter and free of abnormal external moisture. The packaging of the bananas and broccoli must be such as to enable them to withstand transportation and handling and to arrive in satisfactory condition at the place of destination.
Requirements for issuance of phytosanitary certificates for commercial consignments

For any interested party wishing to export commercial consignments, they should:-

  1. Source or look for a market for bananas and broccoli in Korea.
  2. Get registered as an exporter by Horticulture Crops Directorate.
  3. Upon licensing, he/she should make an application to the MD KEPHIS in writing to be given access to the electronic certification system which will facilitate them apply for the phytosanitary certificate. The application should be accompanied by a copy of :
    1. HCD Export license.
    2. Company registration certificate.
    3. KRA PIN certificate.
    4. Copies of the identification documents of the directors.
    5. Signed contract indication the source where the exporter is sourcing to products.
    6. Proof of prepayment of Kshs.15,000 to KEPHIS -This is a deposit for certification cost.
  4. The applicant will be granted access to the Electronic Certification System ECS system by KEPHIS and issued with login credentials for accessing the system in order to make electronic applications for inspection and finally issuance of phytosanitary certificates.
  5. The banana and Broccoli will then be presented at KEPHIS for inspection.
  6. Upon inspection and confirming that the bananas or broccoli are free from pests and pest damage and meet quality requirements, a Phytosanitary certificates will be issued.
